Culture, Language, and Heritage Coordinator

Location: Metlakatla, BC - Onsite
Reporting to: Culture, Language, and Heritage Director
POSITION SUMMARY
The Culture, Language, and Heritage (CLH) Coordinator will support the CLH department and implement the 2024-2028 work plan and budget, enhancing resources and policies related to culture, language, and heritage at Metlakatla. Responsibilities include community outreach, Sm'algyax language education, research, fieldwork, and data management. Collaboration with various stakeholders and support for long-term funding are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Execute the CLH department's 2024–2028 work plan, projects, and budget in alignment with strategic goals
- Develop and implement opportunities for community input, outreach, and awareness of the CLH department’s purpose and services
- Lead initiatives related to Sm’algyax language, including being a community contact and supporting language and cultural education programs
- Assist in developing and implementing policies and programs related to culture, language, and heritage
- Conduct ethnographic, archaeological, and traditional use research; digitize and archive cultural and heritage data
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to build community capacity and support long-term departmental goals
What You Bring:
- Familiarity with the Sm'algyax language is an asset
- Clear and persuasive communication skills in both formal and informal settings
- Knowledge of Indigenous issues such as, cultural revitalization, land rights, and language preservation
- Comfortable working directly with Community Members and Elders in a culturally sensitive manner
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently or collaboratively
- Proficiency in the use of current office productivity software, such as Microsoft Suite, and comfortable working with other various technologies and software

- Criminal Record Check with a satisfactory result
- Class 5 Driver’s License

- Salary range: $28.00 – $32.00 per hour
- Hours of work: 35 hours per week
- Schedule: Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am-5:00 pm, and Friday from 8:30 am-1:00 pm
