General Labourer
Business Unit: Metlakatla First Nation (MFN)
Location: Metlakatla, British Columbia
Reporting to: Manager of Facilities and Public Works
Job Summary
Metlakatla First Nation has an immediate opening for a full-time General Labourer in Metlakatla, British Columbia. As a General Labourer, you will be primarily responsible for assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of community lands and infrastructure. This role involves performing a variety of tasks, including construction, repairs, cleaning, and operating equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, physical stamina, and the ability to work well with others to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment for the community.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain community spaces through landscaping, weeding, raking, garbage collection, brush clearing, sweeping, and general clean-up
- Keep outdoor areas clean, safe, and visually appealing
- Efficiently and safely operate hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes) and power tools (e.g., brush cutters, chainsaws, electric drills)
- Inspect, store, and maintain tools regularly to ensure safety and functionality
- Assist with construction, repair, and maintenance projects as needed
- Follow safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment
- Identify and address on-site hazards, implementing safe work practices
- Collect samples and monitor freshwater and wastewater treatment plant operations, identifying deficiencies
- Support team members in completing tasks and projects
What You’ll Bring
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certificate, or willingness to obtain
- Landscaping and maintenance skills in grounds upkeep, tool operation, repairs, and safety protocols
- Ability to perform manual labor, execute construction tasks, and seamlessly adapt to diverse working conditions
- A positive attitude and willingness to work autonomously or as part of a team
- Working experience (preferred) in general labour or construction
- Working experience (preferred) with Indigenous communities
Working Conditions:
- Perform moderately heavy physical labor involving the full range of body movements, including reaching, bending, grasping, climbing, and lifting
- Must be able to stand, crouch, kneel, and/or sit for extended periods, able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and work from elevation, and walk on varied terrain
Other:
- Criminal Record Check with a satisfactory result
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and clean driving record

Salary range: $24.30 - $26.00 per hour
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
